Leila Zolfalipour
Leila Zolfalipour is a visual artist based in Edmonton, known for her work at the intersection of painting, sculpture, and cultural exploration. Her practice bridges traditional art forms with innovative techniques, focusing on themes of identity, resilience, and our connection to the natural world through the lens of femininity and motherhood.
Leila’s artwork integrates Persian cultural elements, such as calligraphy and traditional carpets, with imageries sourced from her Canadian environment. This fusion of cultures and motifs reflects her unique perspective on multiculturalism and the rich dialogue between her Iranian heritage and Canadian identity.
Leila has participated in cultural events such as the Heritage Festival and Alberta Heritage Days 2024 at the Leduc Arts Foundry. Her work is being showcased at the Edmonton Public Library (Gallery at Milner) as part of the Roots and Routes Exhibit, and she gave an artist talk at the EPL Panel discussion on October 20th, 2024.
Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Design from the University of Alberta with distinction, Leila is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society and The Alberta Society of Artists. She has received recognition for her work and has participated in group exhibitions both in Iran and locally in Edmonton, Calgary and Leduc.
Her practice challenges artistic boundaries by merging traditional craftsmanship with digital technologies, including virtual reality and Video making, creating a dynamic exploration of the physical and virtual realms where the viewers can step into her paintings.
